To get started with this recipe, we must first prepare a few components. You can cook fasting rice using 5 ingredients and 3 steps. Here is how you cook that.

The ingredients needed to make Fasting Rice:
  1. Take 1/2 cup Bhagar
  2. Make ready 2 chopped green chilies
  3. Take 1 tsp jeera/cumin seeds
  4. Prepare 1 peeled chopped potato
  5. Prepare 1 tsp oil

Samo Rice is also known by names like Kodri, Samvat or Samak Chawal. Otherwise it would not be fasting. Rice is high in carbohydrates and as such it will stimulate insulin. The good thing is that fasting does reduce insulin, which is what makes us fat and dependent on carbs in our diet for energy.

Instructions to make Fasting Rice:
  1. Soak bhagar in water for 15 mins and wash it 2-3 times.
  2. Keep a pan on medium flame add oil, put jeera and add potatoes…let it become crispy.
  3. Now add bhagar and roast nicely till all water get evaporated. Put boiled water in 1:2 ratio (bhagar:water). Cover the pan with plate and let it get cooked. Bhagar is ready to eat with curd,buttermilk or Fasting pickles.

Sama is also known as Moraiyo/moraiya, mordhan, vari, varai, samak, samvat, vrat ke chawal and in English known as Barnyard millet.
