Fried Yellow Lentil or dhal is one of the most well liked of recent trending foods on earth. It’s simple, it is fast, it tastes delicious. It’s enjoyed by millions every day. Fried Yellow Lentil or dhal is something that I’ve loved my whole life. They are nice and they look wonderful.

If using a blender, use small amount of water (few tbsp) and blend dhal in small batches. Add few tablespoon of rice flour if blended lentil is way too wet (that happens if water is added too much when blending). Finely mince the rest of the ingredients. Next, mix everything well (ground dhal, minced ingredients & seasoning).

  1. Make ready 450 g yellow lentil
  2. Get 1/2 large brown onion
  3. Get 1/2 large red onion
  4. Make ready 3 (or more) small chillies
  5. Prepare 3 sprigs curry leaves
  6. Take 2 tsp full of chicken seasoning powder
  7. Make ready (Knorr / maggie Brand)
  8. Prepare Oil for frying

This yellow lentil dahl is made from yellow lentils. Also known as yellow split peas. You can practically make dahls from any lentils. Just check out my list of other lentil dahl recipes I've made further down this post.

Steps to make Fried Yellow Lentil or dhal:
  1. Prepare all ingredients. Lentil/dhal is soaked for few hours before using. Drain the water.
  2. Using food processor, grind/blitz lentils/dhal until almost smooth but it’s ok if some are still course. No water needed if using food processor. If using a blender, use small amount of water (few tbsp) and blend dhal in small batches. Add few tablespoon of rice flour if blended lentil is way too wet (that happens if water is added too much when blending). Finely mince the rest of the ingredients. Next, mix everything well (ground dhal, minced ingredients & seasoning).
  3. Heat oil in a frying pan. Scoop desired amount and flatten it on your palm. Make them as thin as possible. It will break easily so gently slide them to hot oil. Leave them undisturbed in hot oil until lightly browned before turning once as they tend to break easily. Avoid crowding the pan. Deep fry to desired crunch. Remove from the pan once done and place on paper towel. Taste then adjust seasoning after the first fried batch. Serve as it is or with any desired dips and sauces.

Being brought up in Scotland I always thought yellow split peas were for soup only. The Indian dal has as many recipes as there are families in India. But there are two popular ones - an exotic and rich restaurant style known as tadka dal and then a basic simple dal recipe the way its prepared at home.
