  1. Make ready 1 head cabbage
  2. Prepare 1/2 tsp pepper
  3. Take 1 tsp salt
  4. Get 1/2 cup sugar
  5. Get 1/2 box bacon
  6. Prepare 2 cup water
  7. Take 1/2 tsp pepper

Cut up your cabbage, add some butter, maybe some bacon grease to the skillet, and fry up a batch of southern goodness really quick and easy with our Southern Fried Cabbage recipe. I don't use the broth because I think that's more like a steamed cabbage than a fried version. Add the onion to the pan. Add the chicken broth, salt, and pepper and cook, stirring occasionally, until the cabbage is tender to your liking.

  1. Fry the bacon in heavy metal pot. Add first 1/2 teaspoon of pepper on bacon while frying.
  2. After Bacon is almost done, add cabbage.
  3. Continuously stirring cabbage n bacon until cabbage is completely covered in bacon fat.
  4. Add remaining ingredients except water. Stir for five minutes until all the cabbage is well coated. (I add more bacon fat if needed)
  5. Add water and stir well. Cook on med - med. high heat covered for 45 minutes to an hour. Depends on size of cabbage. Stir often.
  6. Done cooking. Eat with cornbread n hot sauce. ENJOY

Add the onion to the pan. Add the chicken broth, salt, and pepper and cook, stirring occasionally, until the cabbage is tender to your liking. This southern cabbage recipe is usually served as a side dish but this could totally be a meal on it's own. I ended up serving this next day (because it's ALWAYS the best the next day!) with my baked fried chicken, candied yams, mac n cheese, corn bread and sweet iced tea..
