The ingredients needed to make Papaya Steamed Modak:
  1. Get 1 cup chopped ripe papaya
  2. Prepare 1 cup modak atta / flour
  3. Make ready 1.5 cup water
  4. Take 2 tsp sugar
  5. Make ready 1/2 tsp salt
  6. Take 1 tsp ghee
  7. Get For stuffing :
  8. Make ready 1 cup grated coconut
  9. Get 3/4 cup jaggery
  10. Get 1 tsp poppy seeds
  11. Prepare 1/2 cup chopped dry fruits
  12. Get 1/2 tsp cardamom powder
  13. Take Ghee for greasing the modak mould
  14. Take Water for steaming the modaks

It is also prepared in Karnataka. The special shape has the name of modak. The Karnataka modak may be made the shape of a 'Karanji', a 'half moon' shape and that is called as 'kadabu'. Take it in a pressure cooker.

Instructions to make Papaya Steamed Modak:
  1. Grind and make puree of the chopped papaya.
  2. Heat a pan and put water in it along with salt, sugar and ghee.
  3. Then add the papaya puree in it and mix it well.
  4. Then slowly add the modak flour in it.
  5. Mix it well by continuously stirring and make a dough. Keep it aside. After cooling down knead it well to make a smooth dough.
  6. For stuffing heat the same or different pan and put grated coconut and jaggery in it.
  7. Mix it well and then add chopped almonds, cashew nuts and raisins in it.
  8. Then add poppy seeds, and cardamom powder and mix it well. The stuffing must not be so dry.
  9. Now your stuffing is also ready. Now this the time for preparing this the modaks.
  10. Grease the modak mould with ghee and put small ball of dough inside it and put the stuffing in it and close the dough again and demould it.
  11. You can repeat the same process for all the modaks.
  12. Now steam the modaks by putting water in a vessel and then cover it with a wet cloth.
  13. Cover it and after 15 minutes all the modaks are perfectly steamed.
  14. Now the papaya steamed modaks are ready.
  15. Garnish with some chopped pistachios and then modaks are ready for Prasad.

The Karnataka modak may be made the shape of a 'Karanji', a 'half moon' shape and that is called as 'kadabu'. Take it in a pressure cooker. Take it in a pan, add jaggery and coconut and mix till it gets thick. In this recipe of modak stuffing of sesame seeds, jaggery and cardamom powder is stuffed in puri size of dough and the shaped like a modak, then steamed in a steamer for several minutes and served hot or cold as particular likes. Modak is believed to be the favorite food of Lord Ganesha.
